2009 SfAA Student Endowed Award Winner

endowed_gallardo.jpgI am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Florida in the Department of Anthropology. I am currently writing my dissertation on the institutional recognition of popular healing practices in Mexico. My study investigates what's at stake for indigenous healers under new articulations with state health institutions. In my dissertation, I approach official traditional medicine policy as an emerging cultural formation that can be studied through its everyday practice in order to trace its more elusive social effects. This research was supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the American Philosophical Society.

I received a B.S. in Environmental Studies from Florida International University and a Master's in Forest Resources and Conservation from the University of Florida.
