Valene Smith Prize
Posters on Tourism

Students at all levels (graduate and undergraduate) are invited to submit posters on the theme of “tourism” for a special competition honoring long-time member, Valene Smith.

Three cash prizes will be awarded - $500 for first prize, $300 for second prize, and $200 for third prize.  In order to qualify, the posters should be concerned in some way with the applied social science of tourism.

Valene Smith was one of the founders of the study of tourism and edited the ground-breaking book, “Hosts and Guests: The Anthropology of Tourism”.

The posters which are submitted for the Valene Smith Competition will be set up and exhibited with all other posters on March 28 (Friday) at the 68th Annual Meeting of the Society in Memphis, Tennessee.  Please contact the SfAA Office for additional information on the Competition.
